General overview of cooperative movement in Sri Lanka.


Sri Lanka as a developing country of the third world nation, the activities of the coo  perative sector in Sri Lanka have been closely link up with the day today life of the majority of the population over half a century in Sri Lanka. Cooperative organizations / enterprises are largely and actively engage in multiple economic , social , welfare activities, distribution of consumer goods, supply of essential consumer services viz Medical, Transport, Funeral services, Supplying of Agricultural inputs, promotion & marketing activities in agriculture, fisheries & industries. In addition mobilization and allocation of savings particulars in rural area with the assistance of the cooperative rural banks which are maintained by the Multi Purpose Cooperative Societies.
